Creative Writing

WELCOME TO THE CREATIVE WRITING SECTION WITH SL8R FOR FALL 2022

Course Description: The definition of creative writing is typically fiction or poetry, which displays imagination or invention (often contrasted with academic or journalistic writing). Writing can clarify, heal, excite, encourage, remind, inspire, and make the world a better place. This class is the beginning for students to be a poet, a free- lance writer, a story teller, an essayist, a non-fiction writer, or whatever they may choose to become as a writer. This course will focus on expressive writing in many different forms. Students will have the opportunity to explore several different types of poetry and prose styles, as well as responding to literature, art mediums, quotes, and music. Originality and writing that shows thought will be emphasized. Strategies to avoid writer’s block and new ways to uncover ideas for writing will be studied. Peer reviews and sharing ideas are essential elements to this course.
